Dr. Tracey Severns,
Superintendents Report:
In response to suggestions made by members of the public, a request was made to solicit the assistance of volunteers who could help unpack boxes and check in supply orders. To date, there are several people who answered the call. I would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Freiden, Mrs. Russo, Mrs. Newmann, Mrs. Cullen, and four children who graciously dedicated several hours of their time to assist me with this work. Together, we have been able to process most of the orders that have been delivered to Central School and the Middle School. However, there is a great deal of work yet to be done. Anyone who is willing to offer their services is asked to contact me by calling the board office at 637-6576.
I regret to inform you that a student at Hackettstown High School died in a car crash during the rainstorm on Wednesday, June 14th. He hit a tree after he veered off the road when navigating the curves on Route 46 while traveling from Mt. Olive toward Hackettstown. He died instantly from head trauma. Although he was not a Great Meadows student, we are deeply saddened by his loss. We have sent a sympathy card to the family on behalf of the Board and the District.
Public comment on agenda items:
Bill Vonder Haar, Liberty resident, stated his
feelings in regard to Earth Spec taking over our bus routes and suggested that
because he feels since the bus stops are within the scope of the
Superintendents position, shouldnt we lower her compensation based on
lessening her duties? Dr. Severns asked if should she then be compensated for
the work she performs for the district that are not within her scope of duties?
Mr. Vonder Haar also stated the savings for the bus
routes should be returned to the taxpayers at budget time. He also asked if
Earth Spec could be put out to bid? He also asked about the budget and
supporting documents being posted to the Website. He was told the Board already
lists other information to the Website that they deem appropriate.
