A Special Meeting of the Great Meadows Regional Board of Education was held on Tuesday, October 16, 2007, at Great Meadows Middle School, Independence Township.  The meeting was called to order at 7:34 PM by Robert Jones, President.  A statement was read that adequate notice of the meeting had been given in accordance with the Open Public Meetings Act.

ROLL CALL:

 

Present: Richard Alexander, Jennifer Cassini, Maryann Citro, Peggy Faulborn, Robert Jones, Joe Mahal, Matthew Mowatt, Bernie O’Hara (arrived 7:45 PM), and William Vonder Haar.

 

Absent: None.

 

Jason Gratt, Great Meadows Regional School District Attorney, was also in attendance.

 

There were 9 members of the public in attendance.

 

Motion by Peggy Faulborn, seconded by Jennifer Cassini, whereas, the Board must consider matters involving litigation, the deliberation of such matters may be held in private under the Open Public Meeting Act NJSA 10:4-6, the Board will adjourn to Executive Session at 7:46 PM to discuss the above mentioned matter, to the exclusion of all others.  If any action results, it will be taken following the re-entry into regular session.

Motion carried in a voice vote with Vonder Haar voting no.

 

Motion by Peggy Faulborn, seconded by Jennifer Cassini, to re-enter regular session at 8:32 PM.

Motion carried in a unanimous voice vote.

 

Motion by Maryann Citro, seconded by Peggy Faulborn, to rescind referendum language.

Motion carried in a unanimous roll call vote.

 

Motion by Jennifer Cassini, seconded by Peggy Faulborn, to adopt the attached referendum language, which was read by Jennifer Cassini:

ROLL CALL VOTE: YES: Cassini, Citro, Faulborn, Jones, Vonder Haar.

NO: Alexander, Mahal, Mowatt, O’Hara – Motion carried.

 

Motion by Bernie O’Hara, seconded by Williams Vonder Haar, to add a sentence to the end of the interpretive explanation “the referendum will be rescinded if Liberty Township does not dismiss its pending litigation with 7 days.”

Jennifer Cassini does not accept the motion.

 

Motion by Peggy Faulborn, seconded by Jennifer Cassini, whereas, the Board must consider matters involving litigation, the deliberation of such matters may be held in private under the Open Public Meeting Act NJSA 10:4-6, the Board will adjourn to Executive Session at 8:45 PM to discuss the above mentioned matter, to the exclusion of all others.  If any action results, it will be taken following the re-entry into regular session.

Motion carried in a unanimous voice vote.

 

Motion by Peggy Faulborn, seconded by Maryann Citro, to re-enter regular session at 9:15 PM.

Motion carried in a unanimous voice vote.

 

Motion by Bernie O’Hara, seconded by Matt Mowatt, that the referendum will be rescinded if Liberty Township does not dismiss its pending litigation within 7 days.

ROLL CALL VOTE: YES: Alexander, Citro, Jones, Mowatt, O’Hara.

NO: Cassini, Faulborn, Mahal, Vonder Haar – Motion carried.
