A special meeting of the Great Meadows Regional Board of Education was held on Monday, November 5, 2007, at Great Meadows Middle School, Independence Township.  The meeting was called to order at 7:14 PM by Robert Jones, Board President.  A statement was read that adequate notice of the meeting had been given in accordance with the Open Public Meetings Act.

ROLL CALL:

 

Present: Richard Alexander, Jennifer Cassini, Maryann Citro, Peggy Faulborn (via speaker phone), Robert Jones, Joe Mahal, Matthew Mowatt, and William Vonder Haar.

 

Absent: Bernie O’Hara.

 

Mike Selvaggi, Great Meadows Regional School District Attorney, was also in attendance.

 

There were 9 members of the public in attendance.

 

Motion by Matthew Mowatt, seconded by Jennifer Cassini, whereas, the Board must consider matters involving the referendum, the deliberation of such matters may be held in private under the Open Public Meeting Act NJSA 10:4-6, the Board will adjourn to Executive Session at 7:15 PM to discuss the above mentioned matter, to the exclusion of all others.  Action will follow.

Motion carried in a unanimous voice vote.

 

Motion by Peggy Faulborn (via speaker phone), seconded by William Vonder Haar, to re-enter regular session at 7:35 PM.

Motion carried in a roll call vote with Cassini, Citro, and Jones voting no. – Motion carried.

 

Motion by Jennifer Cassini, seconded by Peggy Faulborn (via speaker phone), to proceed with the referendum based upon the counter proposal received by Liberty Township on November 2, 2007 and their attorney’s letter on November 15, 2007 wherein they agree to stay the appeal pending the outcome of the referendum. Liberty Township will also pay the legal expenses of Great Meadows Regional School District should the referendum fail. Revised wording in the form of a resolution will be voted on at the November 12, 2007 workshop meeting.

 

 

Roll Call Vote: Yes: Alexander, Cassini, Citro, Faulborn, Jones, Mowatt, Vonder Haar.

No: Mahal – Motion carried.

 

Motion by Joe Mahal, seconded by Jennifer Cassini, to adjourn at 7:50 PM.

Motion carried in a unanimous voice vote.
