Q:  What subjects does the BSI program cover?

A:  BSI focuses on math and literacy as per the NJ Department of Education and Federal government mandates.  The BSI program IS NOT (1) a homework club, (2) a tutoring center, (3) a detention room, (4) a counseling center, or (5) a place to do incomplete class work.  The BSI program IS (1) a supplemental program, (2) based on the NJCCS- New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards, (3) pull-out, and (4) designed to help students who lack basic literacy and math skills.

 

Q:  How does a district qualify for Title 1 (BSI )  funding

A:  The amount of money allocated to a district is directly correlated to the number of students receiving free/reduced lunch. Students receiving free/reduced lunch should be the priority of the program.

 

 

Q:  What criteria does the GMRSD use in order for a child to qualify for the BSI program?

A:  NJASK /GEPA / S-Test,  Dibels /DRA /IRI, Teacher Recommendation, district assessments.

 

 

Q:  Can special education students be recommended for BSI?

A:  No

 

 

Q:  Can ESL students be recommended for BSI?

A:  Yes

 

 

Q:  How will BSI be scheduled?

A:  Two times a week – 45- minute pull out class periods for Liberty and Central, 30-minute pull out class periods for GMMS
