Experiences will be such that all students will:

A. use the senses and imagination to create personal art.

GRADE 1 - GOALS/OBJECTIVES

Experiences will be such that all students will:

A. develop drawing skills: drawing lines straight, curved, and joined; combining lines for form shapes; combining  shapes to form images.
B. study composition - arrangement of objects in a picture.
C. practice picture mounting, matching colors.
D. learn repetition through pattern.
E. study primary and secondary colors; color blending.
F. study descriptive color: dark colors, light colors, warm colors, cool colors, bright colors, and pastel colors.
G. practice folding paper for measurement and balance.
H. use symmetry drawing and cutting a shape off a fold.
I. practice cutting on-line and off-line.
J. work toward the proper application of glue.
K. explore waterbased paint techniques.
L. combine painting techniques with drawing.
M. experiment with pastel chalks.
N. create simple printmaking techniques.
0. create texture and form through sculpture.
P. practice tying and knotting.

GRADE 2 - GOALS/OBJECTIVES

Experiences will be such that all students will:

A. continue to develop drawing skills in terms of line, shape, and form.
B. begin to create the illusion of distance in their drawings: objects that are far away look small; objects that are near look large.
C. create the illusion of distance by overlapping.
D. study the use of horizon lines in landscapes.
E. understand background and foreground in a picture.
F. begin to draw more complex houses and buildings.
G. continue folding for measurement, balance, and repetition. H. continue to study descriptive color in projects as well as color enhancement in mounting pictures.
I. explore watercolors and tempera on an independent basis expanding experiences to include sponge, spatter, string, and straw.
J. create texture and form through sculpture.
K. make assemblages from given, found objects, and natural objects.
L. begin simple weaving and unweaving processes in textiles. M. experience a variety of crafts such as making masks, puppets, mosaics, and ceramics.
N. use art materials and tools with care.

GRADE 3 - GOALS/OBJECTIVES

Experiences will be such that all students will:

A. continue to develop drawing skills in terms of line, shape, and form.
B. become aware of the importance of details in drawing.
C. study proportion in figure drawing and still life.
D. include horizon lines in landscapes.
E. create the illusion of distance in pictures by varying the size of objects by overlapping.
F. learn to properly draw a straight line with a ruler and make simple measurements.
G. learn to draw intersections with a ruler.
H. create geometric shapes and forms.
I. study color blending using pastels.
J. make color patterns in weaving.
K. thread a needle and sew two pieces of cloth together.
L. continue study of watercolor and tempera techniques.
M. create texture and form through sculpture.
N. use a variety of craft materials.

GRADE 4 - GOALS/OBJECTIVES

Experiences will be such that all students will:

A. continue to develop drawing skills in terms of line, shape, and form.
B. use the technique of sketching to draw figures and objects.
C. be introduced to shading techniques; understand that light
affects how we see things.
D. draw figures in action -- reinforce body proportions, and emphasize detail.
E. be introduced to perspective, drawing building that looks three-dimensional.
F. study different kinds of architecture.
G. use rulers for measurement, drawing straight lines, and creating geometric patterns.
H. create more complex landscapes including horizons, distance, architecture, trees, people, animals.
I. recognize the difference between transparent, translucent, and opaque.
J. explore the art of lettering.
K. set-up a cardboard loom using measurement and warp it.
L. create a yarn-weaving with attention to colors and patterning.
M. be exposed to abstract art.
N. use a needle and thread to assemble two pieces of cloth (reinforce).
0. continue detailed study of watercolor techniques.

GRADE 5 - GOALS/OBJECTIVES

Experiences will be such that all students will:

A. explore complex art processes which extend over several art periods.
B. develop perceptual awareness by understanding and appreciating art of the past and the present.
    1. Art movements
    2. Significant artists and their works
C. develop a vocabulary for personal reflections toward his/ her art work and that of others.
D. express aesthetic judgments about art based on knowledge. E. expand drawing skills to include a   variety of techniques for applying texture and adding realistic detail.
F. identify the difference between real (actual) and simulated (visual) texture.
G. explore the possibilities of stitchery, applique, and weaving into burlap.
H. begin working with different types of glazes in ceramics. 1. expand printmaking experiences to include the stencil process:
    a. simple stencil
    b. dry-brush stencil
    c. silk screen
J. expand painting and collage experiences by using a variety of materials, tools, and techniques.
K. combine sculptural techniques with those used in other art areas when creating complex art forms.
L. identify and use new media and tools properly.
M. practice safety habits and care of equipment in the art room.

GRADE 6 - GOALS/OBJECTIVES

Experience will be such that all students will:

A. work on long-term projects which involve multiple procedures.
B. appreciate art forms from a variety of different countries and cultures and recognize the artists who created these works.
C. recognize that art is a universal language.
D. integrate art with other curriculum studies in order to enhance the learning process.
E. explore the possibilities of computer art.
F. recognize the artist's role in society.
G. compare and contrast the methods of bas-relief and incised relief:
    a. Foil relief
    b. Copper foil
    c. Aluminum tooling
H. recognize the difference between decorative and functional art forms.
I. expand drawing experiences to include rudimentary perspective principles:
    a. one-point perspective
    b. Two-point perspective
    c. Horizon line
    d. Converging lines
    e. Vanishing point(s)
J. explore the possibilities of optical art.
K. experiment with dark and light patterns using a variety of textural effects.
L. use positive and negative space effectively in complex sculptural form.
M. create a monochromatic color scheme using water-based paints.

GRADE 7 - GOALS/OBJECTIVES

Experiences will be such that all students will:

A. expand drawing experiences to include working with pen and ink.
B. experiment with hatching, crosshatching, and stippling techniques in order to create tone and value in drawing.
C. develop a personal respect for art as a human endeavor. Endeavor - a profession or a field of personal expression
D. appreciate the various styles of art which are typical of twentieth century American Art.
E. compare and contrast the traditionalist and the unorthodox artist.
F. explore the possibilities of commercial art and the impact of technology in this area.
G. expand three-dimensional experiences to include the subtractive method of sculpture.
H. expand color theory to include complementary colors.
I. experiment with tints and shades of color by mixing black and white with other colors of water-based paint.
J. combine a variety of materials, tools, and complex processes effectively.
K. work with advanced craft processes.
L. identify and use new media and tools properly.
M. practice safety habits and care of equipment in the art room.

Experiences will be such that all students will:

A. begin setting goals and objectives for himself/herself in elective art projects.
B. develop criteria for evaluating and appreciating personal art work and the art work of others.
C. participate in class critiques.
D. interpret the meaning(s) expressed in works of art.
E. expand painting experiences to include working with acrylics.
F. expand color theory to include the following:
    1. Analogous colors

G. explore the possibilities of architecture.
H. design drawings, paintings, and sculptures depicting the elements of art:
    1. Line
    2. Form
    3. Space

I. create original designs depicting the principles of art:

J. work with advanced printmaking processes:
    1. Multiple color silk screen
