WORLD LANGUAGE CURRICULUM


CURRENT OFFERINGS

K-3 FRENCH
Students in kindergarten currently receive 15 minutes and Ist and 2nd grade students receive 30 minutes of weekly instruction in French from a certified teacher. Classroom teachers remain in the classroom and record vocabulary, pronunciation, and activities. French lessons are reinforced, when appropriate, during the course of each week. Lessons and activities are exclusively oral in nature, and stress understanding of spoken language.
 

GRADE 6 - FRENCH
Sixth grade students receive 40 minutes of instruction five days each week for one marking period in Introductory French. This is a course which will expose students to the French language and its culture. Activities in which students are involved are almost exclusively oral in nature and focus on the enjoyment and satisfaction of being able to communicate in another language. It is the goal of this introduction to encourage students to further pursue the French language at a more advanced level in 7th and 8th grade.
 

GRADE 6 - SPANISH

GRADES 7-8 FRENCH
Students in 7th & 8th grade may select French as their language of study. They receive 40 minutes of instruction five days per week for the entire year. Activities in these courses continue to focus upon communication & cultural awareness.  Upon satisfactory completion of both A & B level courses, students may enter French II at Hackettstown High School.

GRADES 7-8 SPANISH
Students in 7th and 8th grade who elect to study Spanish do so for the entire year and receive 40 minutes of instruction five days per week.  Activities in these courses continue to focus upon communication, elementary grammar, and cultural awareness.  Upon satisfactory completion of both A & B level courses, students may enter Spanish II at Hackettstown High School.
