School Lunch

Lunch has been increased to $2.10 for the full meal.  Parents are welcome to join their child for lunch in our cafeteria.  If you would like to order lunch for yourself when you visit, adult lunch is $3.25 and must be ordered through the office by 9:30AM.

Bus Passes

Due to the limited number of seats on the buses, it is necessary for any bus change request to be made in writing a minimum of one day in advance.  Requests will only be honored if space is available.

Building Hours

Please remember that students are not able to gain access to classrooms after 4:00PM.  This allows our custodians to complete their tasks without numerous interruptions throughout the evening.

Picture Day

Smile!  Picture Day will be held on Tuesday, September 14th this year.  If you have not received a photo order form, please call the office ASAP.

Reminders

When entering the school, please remember to press the silver button, not the black button, to ring the office.  The black button is the “night bell” which rings the entire school and distracts every classroom!  When picking your child up from school, please come into the office, sign “both sides” of the white book, proceed to the multi-purpose room and wait for your child.  Please exit the building as soon as you have your child so that we may proceed with the bus dismissal.  Parents standing or walking in the intersection creates confusion for our students who are trying to get to their buses.  Thank you!

Fitness Zone

    By Miss Lisa Baatz-Wellness Educator

Emphasis on weight is everywhere in American society.  Children are not engaging in enough exercise and are suffering increased health problems as a result.  As Rick Reilly wrote recently in Sports Illustrated, “This may be the first generation in American history to live fewer years than the one that came before it”.

It is important to encourage your children to lead healthy, active lifestyles, and the best way to do this is to lead by example.  Children who participate in regular physical activity from an early age are more likely to develop and continue an active lifestyle throughout their teenage and adult years.

Regular physical activity improves muscular strength and endurance, helps build healthy bones and muscles, helps maintain a healthy weight, reduces anxiety and stress, increases self-esteem, and reduces the risk of type-2 diabetes in children which can lead to heart disease, blindness, asthma, sleep apnea, gall bladder disease, and depression.  There are also a number of recent studies that demonstrate that children who exercise regularly are getting better results on standardized educational tests.

There are many ways you can encourage your child to exercise more regularly.  Educate them.  Talk to your child about the reasons behind the need to be more active.  Involve the entire family.  Find out from your children what they really enjoy and make a sport of it.  Limit their time watching television and playing video games.  Sure, they may complain at first, but be assured that you will not arrest their development by unplugging them and getting them moving.

Thank You!

Thanks to a group of parents, students, siblings and teachers, Liberty School’s Butterfly Garden is now growing strong again.  This special group of “garden angels” took time out from their busy summer schedules to weed and tend our butterfly garden, which had fallen into disrepair.  Thanks to many hands, the work went quickly, and our garden was reclaimed.  The following people each worked hard, and deserve our recognition and thanks:  Mrs. Garno, Nick G., Chris C., Mike Ciavatta, Mrs. Newkirk, Amanda N., Sean N., Michael N., Andrew N., Ryan N., Mrs. LaPenta, Amanda L., Benjamin L., Mrs. Conway, Brooke C., Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Broxton, Adam B., Mrs. Schantzenbach and Mrs. Redus.
