Meeting Minutes
May 28, 2008
I. Opening and Welcome
A. The meeting of the Liberty Elementary School PTO was called to order by Suzanne Mahler at 7:31pm on Wednesday, May 28, 2008.
B. The following officers were present:
a. Suzanne Mahler, President
b. Kim Burke, Secretary
C. Ms. Baatz was welcomed and thanked for attending. Ms. Baatz discussed the Field Day games at this time. The following are games for the 2008 Field Day: Milking the Cow (K-2) and Holy Cow (3-5); The Fishing Hole; Catch Those Critters; Tube It Relay; Whole World; Trash pick up; Walk of Fame; and Water/refreshment station and guessing game. The students will have 15 minutes at each station. There will be 2 groups at the ice station at one time.
A Packet is going to the teachers explaining that if there is a problem with a student, the parent is to tell the teacher and the teacher will deal with it.
For set-up: At the back door of the gym will be the equipment for the games. There will be a map to show where the game is supposed to go on the field.
K-2 will have lunch from 11:30 – 12:00. There first activity will start at 12:00. 3-5 will have lunch from 11:45-12:15. There first activity will start at 12:15pm.
The activities will be finished by 2:00 pm. The students will move to the hill where awards will be given out for the safety posters and the guessing game.
II. Motions to Accept
A. The minutes of April 16, 2008 were available to read.
Connie Collier motioned to accept the minutes: Second: Diana Sheridan. All in favor.
B. The Treasurer’s Report was available
Sharon Adams motioned to accept Treasurer’s Report: Second: Barbara Higgins. All in favor.
III. Open Positions
A. Committee Chairs open for the 2008-2009 School Year:
1. 5th Grade Sendoff – co-chair
2. Box Tops
3.
4. Community Day
5. Decorating/Concert Decorating
6. Field Day
7. NORWESCAP – Lori Donnelly will chair this committee.
IV. Events started/completed since last meeting
A. Family Fun Night – LTRC Dance – April 18th – There was a DJ, approximately 100 children and lots of volunteers. Everyone had a great time.
B. Market Day – April 28th – no problems.
C. Middle School Dance – both school 5th
grades were invited to the Middle School dance on May 9th. That day the
D. Assembly – Jack Branagan’s “Our Home Planet Earth” – This was an excellent assembly that the teachers, students and Mr. Batha loved. Mr. Batha would like to have Mr. Branagan back next year again with his new “Go Green” assembly.
E. Teacher Appreciation – Week and Luncheon – Everything went great. There is a thank you card from the teachers on the PTO bulletin board. There were plenty of volunteers. The following companies donated: Domino’s Pizza; Brian’s Market; Villa Venice; J.P. Kelly’s; Brooklyn Deli; Herbie’s; Bagel Smith; Nykun’s Store; Godlewsky’s Greenhouses; Rivers Edge Greenhouses; Donaldson’s Greenhouses; Teacher’s Tool Box; Pio Costa; Marty’s Reliable Cycle; Manhattan Hair & Nail; Katarina Floral; Michael’s Salon; Angie’s Sun Shack; Nile’s Steakhouse; Laughing Lion; Trading Post; Greene Brothers Greene’s Beans Café; and Party Time Party Supplies.
Friday May 9th was the Luncheon. The Thursday before a company backed out of supplying 2 trays of chicken. Those trays were ordered from Villa Venice with the intention of paying for them. Villa Venice would not take money for them. They donated those trays of chicken along with what they already promised. Thank you Villa Venice for supporting our teachers!
Barb Higgins and Lisa McMahon did a wonderful job with Teacher Appreciation this year.
F. Family Fun Night – Ice Cream Social – May 16th – 7-8:30pm – There was a great turnout. Approximately 180 people attended. There were lots of toppings to choose from. There were plenty of volunteers – thank you! After everyone ate, people stayed and chatted. It was a nice social event! Definitely need a response sheet for this event.
G. Assembly – The Reniassance – May 19th – There were 2 assemblies – K-2 and 3-5. It was a one woman show that was completely interactive with a Reniassance education. All grades enjoyed the assembly. There were lots of volunteers and they all got a prop to use. Nice job.

V. Upcoming Events
A. Field Day – June 2nd

C. Community Day – June 14th – NEEDS HELP
D. Back to School – Jennifer Copen needs volunteers for the day before school begins to hand out folders
and other items she bought for the students.
E. Halloween – Suzanne Mahler is chairing a Trick –n- Trunk on Halloween then possible a Halloween Dance.
VI. Discussion
A. Suggestion: Instead of purchasing water bottles all year, purchase a jug that can be used for Field Day and Family Fun Nights. It can also be used for Sugar Plum and Back to School Night.
B. T-Shirts for field trips – next year
t-shirts will be purchased, however instead of “Field Day” t-shirts, it was
suggested to purchase “Spirit Shirts” instead.
This shirt would be used for field day, field trips and events (like
