PATHS Meeting Minutes

September 26, 2007

 

 

  1. Meeting called to order by Michele Slonina approximately 6:40pm.
  2. Kim Reitmeyer presented Meeting Minutes from end of last school year meeting 5/24/07.
  3. Assemblies
    1. The Morris County Arts Council provides a review of assembly programs
    2. Cost is approximately $1000 per show
    3. All students see the show (in school concerts and plays) at the same time
  4. Box Tops
    1. Mrs. Holochost is looking for help
    2. Need 1 parent per grade
  5. Honor Roll Breakfast
    1. 2 weeks after report cards go home
    2. Amy Dieter volunteered to coordinate events; Angela Nicoletti will assist and deal with questions from parents regarding any changes to the programs
  6. Hospitality - N/A – Determined that no committee is necessary; PATHS board will coordinate as necessary
  7. Market Day
    1. Deb Schulaka will continue to coordinate the program
    2. Need volunteers
    3. Times – 4-6pm use of GMMS Cafeteria; 5-6pm pick-up time
    4. Scheduled date in May (28th) is Memorial Day – new date TBD
  8. School Store
    1. Joanne Marquart and Katie Connelly volunteered to oversee the school store during the year; requested meet and review current stock
    2. School Supply Packs sold better this year than in the past, however, suggestions were made to improve the process for next year:

                                                               i.      Consider pre-ordering for delivery at end of current school year, or over the summer;

                                                             ii.      Better notice to parents (e-mail blast) and include incoming 6th graders

                                                            iii.      Consider e-mail pre-orders

                                                           iv.      Provide packs as rewards to students throughout the year (including 5th graders at Central School)

  1. School Directory
    1. Michele Slonina to obtain disk from person who completed job last year
    2. Provide disk and changes to Warren Tech to compile new directory
    3. Cover Contest – anticipate conducting contest over the next few weeks; teachers select two winners (front and back)
  2. Get-Togethers
    1. Suzanne Whaler volunteered to chair the committee, Joanne Marquart will assist
    2. 4 per school year
    3. Any student who resides in the Great Meadows region can attend the event (with signed permission slip from parent/guardian)
    4. Suggestion made to get more fathers to volunteer to assist with boys’ restrooms, etc.
    5. PATHS will provide refreshments
    6. Permission Slip template needed from Nancy Caramico
  3. Teacher Appreciation Week
    1. Kim Reitmeyer volunteered to coordinate the events
    2. Suggestion made to have 5 volunteers (one for each day)
    3. Requested suggestions for “big” teacher gift to benefit all (ie., painting teachers’ break room, etc.)
  4. Tee Shirts
    1. School Store volunteers to review inventory
    2. Consider using Warren Tech or other provider (see notes) to keep cost low
    3. New design or social norms promotions suggested
  5. Old Business
    1. Gambling License – submitted to State of NJ; approval pending
    2. PATHS as “Tax Exempt Organization” – IRS requires submission of docs to receive continued tax exempt status

                                                               i.      Carolyn Pullman provided info to Michele Slonina and Kim Reitmeyer; Michele to complete and provide to Carolyn for submission

  1. New Business
    1. Looking for nominees for new PATHS officers – Michele Slonina (President) and Kim Reitmeyer (VP) to continue; Stephanie Conway resigning as Treasurer; status of Sandy Jones (Secretary) TBD
    2. PATHS board and other willing participants to meet separately to develop organization goals for this school year

                                                               i.      Send e-mail to teachers for suggestions

                                                             ii.      Teacher grants

                                                            iii.      Whiteboard adapters to allow students to answer individually

    1. Bookfair conducted by Mrs. O’Connor
    2. Mr. Nicinski recommended the evening program re: Gangs to be held on 10/18 at 7pm – NJ Dept of Corrections to present in conjunction with Independence Police Dept and local authorities
    3. New security system to be in place by October 9; all student drop-offs must now be at the front lobby entrance with consideration for busses
