COMMUNITY HELPERS WEBQUEST

Introduction:
This webquest will inform 1st
grade students about community helpers. The students will be introduced
to different community helpers such as: police officers, firefighters,
doctors and letter carriers.
Task:
Student's will complete the quest to gain an understanding of the jobs of different
community helpers. Students will learn how each occupation is helpful and
identify several characteristics for each community helper. By the end of
the quest the 1st graders will have developed a core understanding of community
helpers. When finished with the webquest the students will use critical
thinking skills and apply this to their own life. Students will draw a
picture of what they want to be when they grow up. They will explain to
the teacher the reason for their choice.
Process:
The first grade students will complete their understanding by journeying
through the webquest. The teacher will work through this quest with the
class as a whole, during a technology period, due to their reading
levels. The students will read together and click on each community
helper to learn more! In the end, the students will be expected to
draw a picture of what they want to be when they grow up and tell why they
chose that profession.

Have
students draw a picture of what they want to be when they grow up using
KidPixs. Have students write the name of the profession at the
top. So, if they draw a doctor the students will write DOCTOR at
the top. Each student must draw items that go along with the profession
they choose. Again, if they drew a doctor they could draw: needle,
hospital, ambulance. In addition, they must arrange a time to share the
picture with the teacher and orally say why they chose that profession.
