Baseball/Softball reminder - Please send in copies of participants' birth certificates if you have not already done so.

 

T-Ball - Rule Change - Registration is now open for children turning 5-years-old as of May 1, 2006.

 

Baseball League Clinic - 4th grade and up - March 25 - register now.

 

Umpire Clinic - 15 years and older - March 11 -- 9 AM to 3 PM - place to be announced.

 

Members Needed - Commission has openings for two full members and two alternates. Volunteers for sub-committees welcome.

PTO News

    Our next meeting is on March 7th from 7:00-8:30 pm with free babysitting.  We hope to see you there!

    Congratulations to the following winners of the Boxtops/Campbell’s/ Tyson contest:  First Place – Mrs. Wohlgemuth’s First Grade class (991 labels), Second Place – Mrs. Kern’s First Grade class (583 labels), Third Place – Mrs. Redus’ Second Grade class (501 labels).  (Prizes will be announced in the next newsletter.)  Thanks to everyone who sent in a total of 2,075 labels!!!  Watch for infor- mation on another contest soon!!

    This year’s Brain Challenge assembly was another huge success and enjoyed by all the kids and staff!  Thanks to all the volunteers who arranged such a fun day!!!  If you know of any other assemblies that our children may enjoy, please contact Chair Anne Young at 637-4954.

    Thanks to the many volunteers who made the February Italian-Themed Teacher Appreciation so tasty! Mrs. Thorry was the lucky winner of a $50 gift certificate to Good Times Restaurant in Oxford, courtesy of the Austin family.  Sincere thanks to the Austins for their generous donation!

Congratulations to Ryan M, Summer S, Olivia M, Kerrianne D, Hannah C, Timmy M, Courtney H, Kerrine S, Kayla S, Alaina W, Tyler W, Charles M, Ryan R, Madison M, Danielle S, Lauren M, Juliana H, Krissy N, Randy D, Justin N, Zach S, Vicky S, Veronica P, Amanda N, Daniel M, Elizabeth P and Andrew P for solving the “Mystery Artist Contest.”  Norman Rockwell, the widely admired American painter, was February’s artist.

 

Here are the clues for March’s contest:

  • This artist was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1928.
  • He helped develop “Pop Art.”
  • He often showed things that were a popular part of everyday life, like food and famous people.
  • His initials are A.W.

    Market Day orders are due by March 14th, and pickup is March 20th from 5-6 pm at the Middle School.  Volunteers are desperately needed to help at the Middle School during pick-ups.  If you are interested, please contact Chair Kate Mugno Tibak at 637-6273 or at kate1208@comcast.net.

    A Co-President opening will need to be filled for the 2006/2007 school year, as this will be Connie Collier’s last year as an officer (two consecutive one-year terms will have been completed at this time).  Full training will be provided.  As in the past, all officer positions open annually.  Nominations for any of the positions will be accepted until April 4th, and elections will be held at the April 18th PTO meeting.  If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Colleen Makarevich, Nominating Committee chairperson, at her e-mail address colleenmak@comcast.net (preferred) or call her at 637-6995.

   

 

Comedy Show

Comedians for Kids are coming from New York City to perform at the Great Meadows Middle School Gym on Friday, March 17, 2006 from 7PM-10PM(with an intermission.)

The price is $10.00 per person. Tickets will be sold at the door.  Doors will open at 6:30.

Refreshments will be sold.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.  Join us for a night of laughs.  Proceeds will benefit the Class of 2006 graduation activities.   Questions - call Vangie.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Great Meadows

Chess Team

Great Meadows Middle School P.A.T.H.S. (Parents and Teachers Helping Students) is looking for volunteers for all officer positions.  PATHS coordinates many activities during the school year: School Directory, School Store, Assemblies, Student Get-Togethers and Honor Roll Breakfast.  If you are interested or for more information, please call: Nancy 637-8966, Liza 475-2066, Maureen 637-8439, or Carolyn 850-3651.  Nominations will be announced at the next PATHS Meeting on Wednesday, March 8 at 6:30 in the Media Center at GMMS. 

 

SCHOOL ELECTION

The annual school election will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2006.  Any registered voter interested in being a candidate for the school board can obtain nominating petitions from the board office located in the basement of Central School, 281 Route 46, Great Meadows, NJ 07838, telephone 908-637-8672.  Petitions must be filed by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2006.

            Candidates filing a nominating petition for board membership must meet the following qualifications;

·                                  He/She is a citizen of the United States of America

·                                  He/She must be at least 18 years of age to qualify for office

·                                  He/She must be able to read and write

·                                  He/She has been a resident of the municipality from which he/she is to be elected for at least one year preceding the date of the election

·                                  He/She is not disqualified as a voter pursuant to N.J.S.A. 19:4-1

·                                  He/She is a registered voter in the district

No board of education member shall be directly or indirectly involved in any contract with, or claim against the board.

        For Independence Township, there are two (2) seats open for a full three (3) year term.  For Liberty Township there is one (1) seat open for a full three (3) year term and one (1) seat open for an unexpired two (2) year term.

            To vote in the upcoming school election, a resident must be registered to vote by March 20, 2006.  Voter Registration forms can be obtained from the Independence or Liberty Township Municipal Clerk, the Election Board in Belvidere, or the NJ State income tax booklet mailed to your home.
