Monday, March 14,
2005 will be a full day of school! Budget Update On Monday, March 7 the Board of
Education approved the preliminary budget for the ’05-’06 school year. It has now been submitted to the Department
of Education for approval upon which it will be advertised in the newspaper,
posted on our website, and made available to anyone who would like a
copy. The primary aim of this budget
is to maintain the programs that are necessary for the continued academic
success of our students and to make timely repairs to our buildings, which
will assure a healthful and safe learning environment for our students. Past budget cuts that were a consequence
of failed budgets have resulted in the elimination of extra curricular
activities, field trips provided as a part of our educational programs, and
instructional support provided by aides in the classroom. Professional and
support staff have been given added workloads when positions were eliminated. We have delayed maintenance projects and
in some years drastically reduced spending for instructional materials and
supplies. These cuts over the years
have come in spite of our record of being one of the most frugal and cost
efficient districts in Warren County.
I encourage you to attend one of the many meetings in which I will be
discussing the budget and answering your questions. On March 29 the Board of Education will hold a Budget Hearing
at 7:30 p.m. in the dining room of the middle school. Your participation is welcomed. Chess

PRE-SCHOOL
PROGRAM
Great Meadows Regional School
District offers a preschool disabled class, which is located at Liberty
School. We currently have morning and
afternoon sessions which run approximately 2 hours, 15 minutes each. The program is based educationally to
teach the whole child. Specialists
such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists
offer their services to the preschoolers. Parents with children aged 3-5
who might be considered educationally disabled or having developmental
speech, physical, or behavioral delays may contact the district’s Child Study
Team office at 637-6020 for further information. Newsletter We will be publishing only one newsletter this month due
to the Easter Break. The next
newsletter will be published on April 8, 2005. Easter Egg Hunt

open within our PTO. The link is http://www.gmrsd.com/liberty.htm. |
Budget
Update (Continued) Please note
that beginning early next week I will begin sending short email messages
pertaining to our school district and budget. Many parents and community members have asked to be on this
list in order to receive this information.
If you do not receive these emails beginning next week and wish to be
added to the list, please call us at 637-6576, and we will be sure to include
your email address. We currently have
approximately 475 addresses that will be receiving these brief and
informative messages. The time is
running short to submit your voter registration form if you are not currently
a registered voter. Please remember
that if you have not voted in the last two federal elections, you are no
longer a registered voter. You can
obtain a voter registration form from any of our schools or the municipal
offices. That form must be received
by the Board of Elections on or before March 19 in order for your vote to be
counted on April 19, School Elections Day.
If you are not sure if you are currently a registered voter, you can
call the Election Board office in Belvidere and they will let you know. Jim Alercia Interim

10-YR ANNIVERSARY Hackettstown
InLine Hockey League (HIH) is celebrating its 10 Year Anniversary. When the
non-profit outdoor summer roller hockey league was established in 1995 it
used the town’s two grade school parking lots with hay bales providing the
rink walls. Over the years two wooden rinks were built and the league also
enjoyed the use of the Independence Twp. rink. This
year, HIH will also be using the new playing surface located in Hackettstown
River Park. This laser-paved surface will have a coating that will help
prevent the player’s wheels from wearing out quickly. HIH is a USA Hockey Inline
sanctioned league which provides recreational hockey for boys & girls
ages 6 to18 yrs. old. Registration will be held on
Wed., Mar. 16th at 5:30pm – 8pm and on Sat. Mar.19th,
9AM – Noon at the Hackettstown Community Center Auditorium. Main St. (Rt.46W)
