Parent Orientation

Please plan to attend the orientation scheduled for Monday, May 23, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. in the Media Center of the Great Meadows Middle School.  This is a great way for you to meet the principals, teachers, counselor, nurse and other staff members.  There will be a presentation and information packet that will help to answer your questions about middle school and students will give tours of the building.  We hope to see all parents of current fifth grade students in attendance that evening.  Our hope is to make the transition from elementary school to middle school a smooth one.  If you have any questions, please call Linda McClune, 637-4349 ex. 354.

Art News

Congratulations to Adrienne N, Elizabeth P, Andrew P, Julia D, Gage K, John G, Bobby L, Victoria C, Brianne L, Olivia S, and Michael R  for solving the Mystery Artist Contest.  Jackson Pollack, the famous 20th Century American painter, was April’s artist.

Here are the clues for the May/June contest:

  • This month’s artist is one of the greatest Mexican artists of the 20th century.
  • She was born in 1907.
  • Some of her most famous works are self-portraits.
  • She was married to another famous Mexican artist, Diego Rivera.
  • Her initials are F.K.

Good luck and please turn all guesses in to the art room by June 3rd.

Beach Day

Beach Day will be held on Thursday, May 19th.  Each student should remember to bring in, by May 17th, an empty, clean 16-oz. (or less) water bottle for a project they will be doing on Beach Day.  Also, please remember that school dress code rules will still apply on that day!

Community Day is scheduled for June 11th this year.  Volunteers to run the PTO game booths that day for 1-2 hours are still needed!  Last year the kids and the parent volunteers had a great time together!  If you are available that day, even for a short time, please contact Chair Sarah Grub as soon as possible at 637-6810 or 637-4457.  Coordination efforts are under way and there are still many time slots that need to be filled.  Thank you!

The PTO portion of the school website has been updated with meeting minutes, agendas, proposed by-laws and change summary, and committees/chairs (along with e-mail addresses).  Watch for treasurer reports and officer job descriptions to be posted soon!  We are hoping the website will be used as an additional way of keeping the lines of communication open within our PTO.  The link is http://www.gmrsd.com/liberty.htm.

Dear Liberty School Families,

As the end of our school year quickly approaches, let us all work together to keep our students focused and committed to their studies.  With each day getting longer and nicer, please remind your children to continue to do their best until the last day of school.  We still have much to accomplish before June 14th.  Help us to make the remaining days of school both productive and enjoyable.  Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,
