Works Cited

BOOK FORMAT

You will find most of the information to be cited on the title page and copyright (verso) page of the book.

The punctuation marks and certain words are typed in red in the samples below.  Do not use red when typing your Works Cited.  Red has been used to emphasize the importance of the punctuation marks and words to be included when typing your Works Cited.

 

BOOK (ONE AUTHOR)

Author's Last Name, First Name. Title of Book. City

     of Publication: Publisher, Copyright Date.

EXAMPLE:

Bishop, Gordon. Gems of New Jersey. Englewood Cliffs,

     N.J.: Prentice-Hall, 1985.

                                                                                                                                                   

BOOK (TWO OR THREE AUTHORS)

Author's Last Name, First Name and Second

     Author's First Name Last Name. Title of Book.

     City of Publication: Publisher, Copyright Date.

EXAMPLE:

Cuyler, Margery and Arthur Howard.  The New Jersey

     Battlefield Ghost. New York: Scholastic Press, 1999.

 

             

BOOK (MORE THAN THREE AUTHORS)

Author's Last Name, First Name, et al. Title of Book.

     City of Publication: Publisher, Copyright Date.

EXAMPLE:

Sceurman, Mark, et al. Weird New Jersey. New York:

     Scholastic, 2000.

(Latin for "and others" - et al.)

 

The formats used above are based on the guidelines described in the MLA Handbook.  They may have been modified to meet the needs of the students at Great Meadows Middle School. The students in grades six through eight will be expected to use the formats when creating a Works Cited page.
